About The National Seaweed Company
The National Seaweed Company was founded with a simple ambition: to celebrate the extraordinary beauty of Britain’s seaweed through art, craftsmanship and thoughtful design.
Inspired by our coastlines and rooted in a lifelong love of the sea, we create original pressed seaweed artwork and nature-inspired collections that transform one of Britain’s most overlooked natural treasures into timeless pieces for the home. From limited edition prints and greeting cards to textiles, stationery and future collections, every design begins with real pressed seaweed and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
We are Stuart and Charlotte, a husband-and-wife team whose journey began on the Sussex coast in Brighton and Hove, where our shared love of the sea first took root. With family ties to Devon, we eventually returned to the South West to build our home, raise our family and create a business inspired by the coastline that has always shaped our lives.
For Charlotte, that journey began many years earlier. As a child, she was given a small flower press by her grandmother, who introduced her to the quiet joy of foraging and preserving nature. Together they collected botanical treasures, and it was her grandmother who first taught her the traditional art of pressing seaweed. Those moments sparked a lifelong fascination with the intricate forms, colours and textures hidden beneath the tide—one that continues to inspire every collection we create today.
Charlotte later studied architecture at the Oxford School of Architecture, developing an eye for form, composition and design that continues to influence our work. Stuart’s background in chemistry brings another perspective, supporting our commitment to creating thoughtful, carefully crafted collections inspired by nature.
Although our roots remain firmly in Devon, our vision extends far beyond one coastline. The National Seaweed Company celebrates the remarkable diversity of Britain’s shores, drawing inspiration from seaweed found around the United Kingdom while honouring the traditions of seaweed pressing and botanical art.
Every piece we create begins with nature. Every collection tells a story. And every design is created with the hope that others will come to see Britain’s seaweed as we do—not simply as something found on the shore, but as one of our country’s most beautiful and inspiring natural treasures.
